Golden Acrylics

I could never achieve the look in a wildlife painting that I wanted until I discovered Golden Acrylics Heavy Body Paints. When I first started painting in 1983, I started with oil paints. I guess the reason was because as a child, I would receive oil paint-by-number sets that contained oil paint. When I first tried acrylic paint, I was not impressed with it at all. To me it was hard to work with because I was trying to apply the same techniques with acrylic paints that I had been accustomed to with the oil paint.

When I finally learned the secret to using acrylic paint, I really began to feel comfortable with it as a medium. It was not until I discovered Golden Acrylics that I really was able to put the paint to work for me. My time spent with tube oil paint had set some habits in me that were hard to break. I could never get the acrylic paints that I first tried to work the way I wanted it to.

I like pre-mixing my colors, starting with the darkest value and working to the lighter value. With tube paints, I could never find the same consistency from tube to tube.

When I start a painting, I mix two ounce cups of my primary colors. These are the colors I use to build all of my different shades from to build the light and shadow of the painting. Because I use the 2 ounce portion cups with lids, my paints stay fluid until completely used up. I can generally get at least two paintings from a single mix of paint. Tubes of paint don’t contain enough paint for this type of mixing. Thats where the large containers of paint produced by Golden Acrylics comes to the rescue.

I can set cup on the digital scales, dip out the required amount of paint by weight, add the exact amount of water needed for the mix, and I’m ready to go. The large containers come in sizes ranging from 2 oz. jars to the very large 128 oz. size, which is very convenient for me.

The color availability of Golden Acrylics is unmatched by any other acrylic paint manufacturer. The 200ml tubes of paint that I was using from another manufacturer only had 5 colors. The only color of green available in those tubes was an awful lime green color better suited for painting street murials than wildlife paintings. Golden has over 100 different colors to choose from, with 10 different shades of green instead of one, plenty of earth tones, blues, reds, and yellows.

The heavy body paint has an exceptionally smooth, thick, buttery consistency. It is truly a joy to work with. The texture, feel, and workability of the paint is the same each time I purchase a container. Not like one brand I tried that was like water in one tube and like cake icing in the next. With Golden Acrylics, my paint mix recipes don’t have to be altered because of the differences in consistency from container to container.

So I have learned to let the paint work for me and not the other way around. The next time you need paint, try Golden Acrylics Heavy Body paint. I think you’ll be glad you did. Until next time, keep your brushes clean, your colors pure, and as always, thanks for stopping by the North Forty.

This was very useful in doing painting on a wood duck I was working on the wings .
Now If there was a print of the top of the wing to go by, would be great.
